The Son of Perdition

 

Paul foretold the great apostasy that would result in the establishment of the papal power in his 2^nd Letter to the Thessalonians, in which he writes: “except there come a falling away first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

 

He further warns his brethren, “the mystery of iniquity doth already work.” (2 Thess 2:3, 4, 7). Even at that early stage of Christianity, errors were creeping in that would prepare the way for the development of the papacy.

 

Little by little, and then more openly as it increased in strength and gained control over the minds of then, the “mystery of iniquity” carried forth its deceptive and blasphemous work.

 

Paganism in the Church

 

Almost imperceptibly, the customs of heathenism found their way into the Christian Church. Persecution under paganism constrained the trend for a time, but as Christianity entered the courts and palaces of kings, it laid aside the humble simplicity of Christ, cast aside his apostles for the pomp and pageantry of pagan priests and rulers, and in place of the requirements of God, substituted human theories and traditions.

 

The Spirit of Paganism Controls the Church

 

The nominal conversion of Constantine in the early part of the fourth century caused great rejoicing and won many converts to the Church. But paganism, while it appeared outwardly to be vanishing, actually became the conqueror, for its spirit controlled the Church. It’s doctrine, ceremonies and superstitions were incorporated into the faith and worship of the professed followers of Christ.

 

This compromise between paganism and Christianity resulted in the development of the papacy, ‘the man of sin’ foretold in prophecy as opposing and exalting himself above God.

 

To secure worldly gains and honors, the church was then led to seek the favor and support of the great men of the earth and thus rejected Christ, and was induced to yield allegiance to the representative of Satan on earth—the bishop of Rome.

 

The Authority of the pope

 

One of the leading doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church is that the pope is the visible head of the universal church of Christ; he is invested with supreme authority over bishops and pastors in all parts of the world. More than this, the pope has arrogated the very titles of Deity. He styles himself “Lord God the Pope”, assumes his infallibility, and demands all men pay him homage.

 

However, those who fear and reverence God pay heed to Luke 4:8— “Thou salt worship the Lord thy God and Him only shalt thou serve.”  God has never given any single word or notion in His Scriptures that any man (other than the Lord Jesus) should be head of the church, or the world. The doctrine of papal supremacy, then, is directly opposed to the teachings of the Scriptures. The pope can have no authority over Christ’s church other than by usurping God Himself.

 

Satan Suppresses the Bible

 

Satan knew the Holy Scriptures would enable men to discern his deceptions and withstand his power. Wasn’t it by the Word the Savior resisted his attacks? At his every assault, Christ presented the shield of eternal truth, saying, “It is written.”

Always, Satan, I order to maintain his hold upon mankind and especially to establish the authority of the papal usurper, has endeavored to keep men in ignorance of the Scriptures and substitute false ones in their place.

The Bible exalts God and reveals the truth of man’s truth relationship to God, his true being, and the way to eternal salvation; its sacred truths had to be suppressed or men would know the salvation of their souls did not depend on priests and prelates and their dogmas and doctrines, their rotes and rituals, but only on the grace of God and the salvation offered by the Lord Jesus Christ. The logic was adopted in the Catholic Church as well.

 

The Bible Is Forbidden

 

For hundreds of years, circulation of Bibles was forbidden. People were forbidden to read it or have it in their homes, and unprincipled priests and prelates interpreted it to sustain their pretensions.

The pope thus became to be almost universally acknowledged as the vice-regent of God on earth, endowed with supreme authority over Church and State.

Image worship was gradually introduced, and the ancient Saturday Sabbath was set aside by Constantine in the fourth century.

 

Christ’s Salvation Spurned

 

Instead of trusting to Christ for the forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation, the people looked to the pope and to priests and prelates to whom he had delegated authority. They were even taught the pope was their mediator, and that none could approach God except through him.

Furthermore, he stood in the place of God to them, and therefore was to be implicitly obeyed. Deviation from his requirements was sufficient for the severest punishments to be inflicted upon body and soul of the offender.

With the elevation of human laws and traditions, and the suppression of God’s grave and the Scriptures, came corruption and venality.

 

 

The Church Launches a Bold Plan

 

The Church looked to consolidate its power over all the earth and assimilate or destroy all the remnants of Christianity who still believed in the Bible and were not Roman Catholics and would not bow their knees to the pope. It was impossible to convert them—experience had shown they willingly died for their faith and more sprang up in their place.

And the Jews, those obstinate killers of Christ! How to wrest Jerusalem from them? Jerusalem, the city Christ himself would rule from in the end times, which they were sure were right around the corner? The pope desperately wanted Jerusalem, but saw no way to get it from them—unless a crafty plan was devised to rid the world and the Church of both these pestilences forever and gain strong, loyal warriors of God that would forever be at the pope’s beck and call to quench any and all opposition to the pope’s edicts forever!

 

With them in place to enforce his every demand with him remaining piously anonymous, he could truly rule the world!

Thus, as you will see in this video, the pope and the Vatican laughed a bold and audacious plan that would have worldwide calamitous consequences that we are experiencing to this very day.

It is an understatement to say things didn’t go quite the way this’ God on earth’ had planned.
